Access to comprehensive, quality health care services is important for the achievement of health equity and for increasing the quality of a healthy life for everyone. Four main components of access to health care have been identified: coverage, services, timeliness, and workforce.

Improving health care services includes increasing access to and use of evidence-based preventive services. Clinical preventive services are services that:

  • Prevent illness by detecting early warning signs or symptoms before they develop into a disease (primary prevention).
  • Detect a disease at an earlier, and often more treatable, stage (secondary prevention).

Primary Care Providers (PCPs) play an important role in the general health of the communities they serve. However, there has been a decrease in the number of medical students interested in working in primary care. To

improve the Nation's health, it is important to increase and track the number of practicing PCPs in addition to providing these clinicians with the adequate tools to perform well.

NEXA aims to optimize the services offered by PCPs through custom client-driven innovations in technology. For example, engineering custom software for EMR, Mobile Medical Apps, and Medical Devices geared to impact both the primary and secondary prevention of disease. Also, NEXA will develop custom software to assess the clinical effectiveness of given systems currently in place as it concerns primary and secondary prevention of disease.

The U.S. health care system, which is already strained, is currently facing an influx of roughly 32 million Americans who now have health insurance for the first time. These issues, and others, make the measurement and development of new strategies and models essential.

Specific issues that will require monitoring over the next decade include:

  • Increasing and measuring access to appropriate, safe, and effective care, including the previously mentioned clinical preventive services
  • Decreasing disparities and measuring access to care for diverse populations, including racial and ethnic minorities and older adults.

With the additional influx of Americans having health insurance for the first time, it is critical for the development and measurement of new strategies to better prevent and earlier detect disease. NEXA aims to address these concerns through the development of custom client-driven software for EMR, Mobile Medical Apps, and Medical Devices.

Differences in access to healthcare across different populations is the main reason for existing disparities in healthcare provision. These differences occur for several reasons.

In the US, the lack of healthcare providers in general, particularly primary care providers, has been cited as key reason. For example, in areas where minority populations are concentrated such as inner cities and rural areas, the number of health practitioners and diagnostic facilities is often inadequate. Now compounding that with the influx of roughly 32 million Americans with insurance for the first time, it is quite easy to see the looming concern here as it regards providing comprehensive, quality health care services that are important for the achievement of health equity and for increasing the quality of a healthy life.

NEXA aims to design custom client-driven software for EMR, Mobile Medical Apps, and Medical Devices to assist providers in managing the influx of new patients now with health insurance in lieu of, and for some time, there having existed a significant shortage of PCPs in the US.

NEXA intends to create custom solutions engineered to increase clinical efficiency when faced with having to manage larger than usual patient volumes; solutions that also aim to focus on prevention and early detection of disease.
